Blogs, friends and Paris

In the next three weeks our lives are going to change a bit. Maybe more than a bit… Danie was transfered to France, so our family will move to Paris middle of June.

We will leave friends and family behind, but now with internet our lives are so different from years ago. I can take all my blogfriends with me. If I don’t tell you, you won’t even know that I am not in Cape Town anymore. Only the scenes in my sketches might change…

Some blogfriends will be closer now. Isn’t America closer to France than Cape Town? : ) Then Leslie won’t be so far anymore. Wouldn’t it be lovely to meet her one day. Stephen is now just around the corner, but from June he will be very far away. I won’t be able to attend his exhibitions anymore…
There is Sonya who lives in France. To visit Ronelle, a friend from Stellenbosch days, it will now only be a short drive to her in the Loire Valley. That is very nice.
Maybe I can attend one of Barry‘s art holidays in Europe. That will be special.
My sister Marelise and my friend Juriaan just started their blogs. They will be far, but I can still see their art and photographs.
It could be interesting to meet the chef Richard, just close by in England… and all the characters in his videos.
There is also the new artist Nuno just nextdoor in Spain and many more who come to visit here at Butterflyhands…

Well, as the world is so much smaller now, maybe nothing will change…

Little music blocks

I did these paintings after the drawing of the previous post. Each block is part of the drawing.

Well, I don’t think this falls under cubism any more. I will try that again later.

Art class in Toronto

Yesterday I attended Barry Coomb’s art class… yes, that’s in Toronto… But thanks to the blog-world I could do it here in Cape Town. I invited myself and didn’t pay for the class, so I hope it is fine. : )
Read more about Barry here.
I tried the class about cubism. My art knowledge actually only consists of ‘I like a painting or not’ or ‘the colours are nice or not’, so I don’t know if I understood the whole cubism idea very good, but I really had fun doing this sketch.
So thanks Barry and I would like to attend the ‘critique’ as well…
Here is Barry’s post.

A new look

Well, after two and a half years I thought it was time for a change. A new theme, a new colour, a new header!
It is strange that I’ve kept the blog the same for so long, that’s not the way it works in our house… We often move furniture around. Danie like to tell people that he comes home from work and rooms are swapped!
Well, the changing part is not so nice. Moving, and thinking where to put things. Paint walls / choose a background colour… what colour should I use…
But, to sit back and look at your changes… that’s the nice part!

a basket for the new look…

A painting for someone you don’t know

Our youth at church are going to Summercamp in December. On Saturday evening they hosted a talent concert to raise funds. ..and are they talented!! I offered to make them a painting to ‘raffle’ or something to make money with.

This was difficult. Now you wonder what kind of painting would ‘other people’ like. I learned something with this painting. You should paint what you like and then it will be good… and people will like it too. But, it worked out ok, even if it was my first flowers painting.

arum lilies…
