Getting back to art.

We had a busy time the last few months. We moved to a new town in France. Apart from all the work on the house, it also asks for a lot of organizing, schools, electricity, gas, and the list continues.
When you’re busy with everyday life, art is shifted to the side… Maybe not the right thing to do.

After the long summer holiday, the kids went back to school this week and the house had received enough work to make it ‘livable’, so it’s time for me to see if I can  do any art still? : )
Difficult to get going again, but I know that you just have to start. One line leads to another…
I’ve also put up my name for an art class that starts next week. That is another reason why I got myself to do something today. I can’t get to the class and do not even know how to hold a brush! : )

Two quick sketches in my sketchbook…

The village, Beynes, where we now stay… close to Paris.

To finish or not to finish.

When you take up a painting again that’s been sitting on the easel  for two years, you sometimes wonder if you should finish it or just start all over again. This one I started more than two years ago… and at last its done.

I almost started all over. The picture stayed the same, but then I used the strangest blues and greens. I think I bought new paint at that time and just wanted to use it. Now I am back at my usual sap green and french ultramarine and like it more. Well, the river still has a minty touch, which I will leave like that… : )

Into the woods

Its not officially the end of autumn here in France, but the pretty leaves are now all lying on the ground. Still pretty… they create a new picture making a carpet between the tree trunks.

the last leaves…

I am playing with crafts now and this sketch was turned into the front cover of a notebook I made. Handbound with coptic binding.

Old charcoal sketches

I was sorting some shelves yesterday and found these charcoal sketches. They all come from my art classes at Bellville art center a few years ago. You had to finish a certain amount of pencil sketches (mostly shells) and then you moved on to charcoal.
